Introduction

Fletching is a members only skill that is used to make bows and arrows. You can make different types of bows and arrows by using different types of logs and different types of arrow tips. Each one of these types of bows and arrows has a different level needed to fletch them. Different levels are also needed to use the different types of bows as well. You will need different types of bows to use different types of arrows.

Arrows

You can make many different types of arrows depending on what arrow tips you add to them; anything from bronze to rune bars. The better the arrow tip you have on the arrow, the more powerful it will be. With better arrows, though, you will also need better bows which can get fairly expensive.

To make arrows you will need 4 things: a knife, regular logs, feathers, and arrowheads. Make sure that you have regular logs, because you can only make arrows with regular logs. To make the arrows, simply use the knife on the logs. Once done, a message will appear in the chat window asking what you would like to make. From there, click on the picture of the arrow shafts. If you would like to fletch more than just one log, you can right click on the arrow shafts and you are able to choose from crafting 1, 5, 10, or 'x' number of logs. For every log you craft you will receive 15 arrow shafts. From there you can add feathers and arrowheads.

To add the feathers and arrowheads, use them on the arrow shaft; you must add the feathers before the arrowheads. To craft arrowheads you will need a metal bar of some kind. Use it with an anvil and select the arrowhead picture. To make more than one set of arrowheads you can right click the image and you will have the choice of making 1, 5, or 10 sets of arrowheads. Like the arrow shafts, you will receive 15 arrowheads from each metal bar. You can craft anything from bronze to rune arrowheads deepening on what your smithing level is; you also need different levels to craft the different arrows.

Brutal Arrows

To make brutal arrows, you need to have finished the Zogre Flesh Eaters quest.

For fletching brutal arrows, you will need Achey Tree Logs, Feathers, Nails, a Knife, and a Hammer. To make Ogre Arrow shafts, use the knife with the Achey Tree Logs. You will receive 2 to 6 Ogre Arrow Shafts per log you cut. Use the Feathers with the Shafts to make Flighted Ogre Arrows. It will take 4 Feathers for each Ogre Arrow Shaft you craft. Use the Nails with the Flighted Ogre Arrow to make Brutal Arrows. Depening on which type of Nails you use, you will receive a different type of Brutal Arrow. You can make anything from Bronze-Rune and even Black. Black nails may be found in coffins or as a Zogre drop. Brutal Arrows can only be used with an Ogre Bow or Ogre Composite Bow.

Bows

You can make many different types of bow depening on what types of wood you use to make them with. You can either cut your logs with the required woodcutting level or you can buy them. The better the wood, the high woodcutting level you will need to cut them.

In order to make bows, you will first need to make bowstring. To make the bowstring, you will need flax and a spinning wheel. To get the flax you will need to pick some from a flaz field; I would reccommend picking them from the field south of Seers Bank. Once you have the flax, simply use it on the spinning wheel and you will have produced a bowstring.

Now that you have your bowstring, you will need to make an unstrung bow to use it on. To make the unstrung bow, you will need a knife and some logs. Whichever type of logs you decide to use will be the type of unstrung bow you will make. Use the knife on the logs and choose either from a longbow or a shortbow. To more than just one unstrung bow, right click the image and you may can choose from either 1, 5, 10, or 'x' number of bows.

Now that you have the bowstring and the bow, use one on the other and you will have created a bow.

Ogre Bows and Arrows

To make Ogre Bows you will need to have finished Zogre Flesh Eaters Quest.
To make Ogre Arrows you will need to have finished Big Chompy Bird Hunting Quest.

Ogre Bows

There are two types of Ogre Bows, the regular Ogre Bow and the Ogre Composite Bow. You cannot make the regular Ogre Bow, you have to do the Zogre Flesh Eeaters Quest to obtain one. To make the Ogre Composite Bow you will need a Knife, Achey Tree Logs, and Wolf Bones. Use the Knife on the Achey Tree Logs while holding the Wolf Bones and you will make an Unstrung Ogre Composite Bow. Use a bowstring on the unstrung bow and you will have made a complete Ogre Comp Bow.

Level 30 Fletching is required to make the Ogre Composite Bow and you will recieve 45 exp for making the unstrung bow and 45 exp for stringing it.

Ogre Arrows

To Make Ogre Arrows, you will need Achey Tree Logs, Feathers, Wolf Bones, a Chisel, and a Knife. Use the Knife on the Achey Tree Logs and choose to make Ogre Arrow Shafts. You will receive 2 to 6 Arrow Shafts from each log. Use the Feathers with the Shafts to make Flighted Ogre Arrows. It takes 4 Feathers for each Ogre Arrow Shaft. Use the Chisel with the Wolf Bones to make Wolfbone Arrowtips. You will recieve 2 to 6 Wolfbone Arrowtips per set of Wolf bones. Use the Wolfbone Arrowtips with the Flighted Ogre Arrows and you will have made a complete Ogre Arrow.

Level 5 Fletching is required to make Ogre Arrows. Ogre Arrows can only be used with an Ogre Bow or Ogre Composite Bow. You gain 6 experience for each Ogre Arrow made.

Budget Fletcher

This is for all those fletchers who are low on money and looking to get fletching levels without really spending money. Budget fletching won't really come in handy until you are 70+ fletching and able to make Yew Longbows(70 fletching.) Most fletchers will buy or cut logs and fletch the logs into longs(u) without stringing them untll they're able to make yew longbows. Stringing any bows below Yews would be a waste of money since bowstrings are 180-200 gp each. Once you have reached 70 Fletching this is where you will need a bit of money to buy your supplies. Depending on how much money you have to spend, buy as many yew logs and bowstrings as possible.

Let's use 1k yew logs, and 1k bowstrings as an example. Once you have your supplies fletch the logs into longs(u) and then string them all into Yew longbows(s). Now there are two options after you have fletched all of your longs. You can either sell them for cash, so you can buy back your materials and possibly make some money depending on cost of materials. The other option is to just trade the 1k yew longbows for the materials (1k yew logs, 1k bowstrings.) Depending on which route you take, either one will be helpful and allow you to obtain fletch levels without losing money. Selling the yew longbows to alchers is quite profitable and you can make some money per 1k yew longs or magic longs that you sell.

Training Methods

Level's 1-25

The easiest, and best, method of getting to level 25 Fletching is by making arrow shafts. Simply go to a well forested area. A good spot is the forest between Lumbridge and Draynor. Do not make your logs into Longbows or Shortbows because it will just take up space, and waste your time dropping them. Continue this until you reach level 25.

Level's 25-40

At level 25 you can begin to make Oak Longbows. You have three different options for getting to level 40. The first option is to make Oak Longbows (unstrung). It is a waste of a good bowstring to string these. The second option is to continue to make arrow shafts, and make them into arrows. This is the option that most people pick because arrows can actually be used. Continue to cut shafts. Then either buy feathers or collect them yourself. Put the feathers onto the shafts. Then you can buy arrowheads, or bars and put heads onto your arrows. You can sell these arrows on the forums and make a bit of cash, or keep them for your own personal use. If you are not interested in Ranging or making the money, and just want fast experience, just do the highest bow you can make. At 35, you can start on willow shorts. It only takes about 450 willow shortbows to get to 40 fletching. This can sometimes be fast then spending time on collecting all of the items needed to make arrows.

Level's 40-70

Now you can make the willow longbow. At this stage you can make willow longbows (unstrung) until level 70. This is probably the best method. Begin buy either buying or having a large stockpile of willows, then fletch them. If you need cash, you can sell them to the general store for 14 gp - 20 gp each. Even though you do lose money, this is definitely the quickest and best. Sometimes, players will trade willow logs for unstrung willow longbows.

Level's 70-85

At level 70, you can finally begin to make money with Fletching. The only worthwhile method of training is the Yew Longbow. The best method for making money efficiently with Yew Longbow's is to buy Yew Logs and Bowstrings, try to budget yourself for 550 gp in supplies per bow (350-360 gp for a log, 200 gp for a bowstring) That should be the most you would want to spend on a bow. Once your bow is made you have 2 different options. The first option, is the quickest, easiest, and most profitable. Sell the Yew Longbow for 600 gp - 620 gp. The second option is to alch your bows. This method is only profitable if you made the nature rune's yourself, since the bows only alch for 768 gp. If you wish to use this method, be prepared to lose money and spend extra time doing, but you will get extra experience in Magic.

Level's 85-99

Once you reach level 85, another option is available. Magic Longbows. Magic Longbow's are a great option for people who wish to alch and make a bit of a profit. Try to budget yourself at 1, 200 gp per bow. Then buy natures for 300ea, and alch. You'll make about 50 gp profit per 1000 bows made, but you'll get Magic Experience too. If you do not plan on alching your bows, stick to yew longs. The experience between the two are quite similar, and there is a larger profit with Yew Longs. When you reach 99 Fletching, you can finally call yourself a Master Fletcher!
