Introduction

Firemaking is the art of making fire! It is useful in Cooking, lighting lanterns and other objects, and quests. This skill goes hand in hand with Woodcutting, as you make fires with the logs that you cut. Sometimes considered one of the most useless skills, Firemaking is a very simple one. All you need is a tinderbox, available in any general store for a couple of coins.

FAQ

Q: Why do some people say “selling fires?”
A: They are either referring to fire runes, or some people sell them on places where fires are often needed for cooking or other uses, such as the Karamja docks.

Q: What are some related skills to Firemaking?
A: Some related skills include Cooking and Woodcutting.

Q: Why does my character always make fires in a certain direction?
A: Your character will always make fires (when he is finished lighting one, he moves this direction) from east to west, which is the way the sun rises and sets respectively. If you think of fires as the sun, you will know which way your next fire will be made.

Are there any shortcuts for Firemaking?
A: No, there is no “light X” option, however once you have a line of fires, if you click the logs and tinderbox fast enough, your character will not do the Firemaking animation, therefore lighting your fires a little bit quicker.

Q: Where can I light fires?
A: You can light fires almost anywhere, the only exceptions are on top of rocks, inside banks, on half-tiled squares (ones which have, for example, half grass and half stone), or on top of another fire. Other than that, you can light a fire on top of any object or on top of any patch of ground.
