Introduction
Agility is a skill only available to members. Agility can be one of the most useful skills when it comes to navigating your way around Runescape, although it can be a bit of a tricky skill to train. Agility can be used to access shortcuts around Runescape, which can be found all over the place, they can help to cut a lot of time off longer journeys.
Shortcuts can often be found in high traffic areas, and very popular places. By taking advantage of these shortcuts you gain an advantage over other players - notable places include the Ectoplasm pool, a quick passage to the blue dragons in Taverly dungeon and even accessing the Saradomin area of the God wars dungeon.
The higher level of agility you have, the less likely you are to fail on obstacles, and the more difficult the obstacle you can attempt. You will also find that at higher levels of agility, the length of time it takes to replenish your run energy will decrease, allowing you to run for longer.

How agility works
Agility is a trickier skill to train than most. To gain experience in agility, you have to go to an agility course and tackle obstacles. Each obstacle that you attempt and succeed on you will gain an amount of experience, if you happen to fail on an obstacle, you won't receive any experience, and you may risk taking damage.
The higher level agility you are, the more difficult the course you will be able to attempt. Some courses will have an entry requirement, such as the wilderness agility course, which requires to you pass a log walk obstacle before you can enter the main course, and the barbarian course that requires you to pass a pipe squeeze obstacle.
Generally speaking, the higher level obstacles will be the most difficult to beat, usually these obstacles will give you the most experience, but you will also run the risk of taking more damage. The darts obstacle in the Brimhaven arena is a good example - to try the obstacle you need 40 agility, you can try it if you have a lower level but you wont succeed, even if you are past level 40, it is still a difficult obstacle, which most people prefer to avoid.
The damage you receive from obstacles is proportional to the amount of health you have. If you have full health then you will receive high amounts of damage, but the damage will decrease the lower your health decreases. For example if you have 60/60 health, you could receive between 5-6 points of damage per obstacle, but at 20/60, you would only receive 2-3 points of damage. Many people prefer to keep their health at lower levels, to take less damage.
There are also some mini games associated with agility, which provide you will extra experience for the skill or some useful items. A list of courses and obstacles are below.
What to wear
Unfortunately, there aren't many clothes that provide agility bonuses. The kit I'd recommend is as follows:
Inventory
Teleport runes to the closest location to the course you're heading to. These are useful if you get stranded with no food halfway through the course, so you can make a quick exit. Pick the runes that take up the least inventory space, Ardougne teleport, Camelot, etc.
Agility mix/agility potion, these are optional usually. I find them helpful on the Brimhaven arena, as it will replenish your agility points if you fail on the darts obstacle. The agility mix is useful because it restores health as well. Cakes are the best food to take when doing agility courses. They can be eaten in 3 goes, which means they last quite a long time, and are good for controlling your health at the level you want.
You might also want to leave a space for entrance money and for any tickets you intend to collect at the Brimhaven arena.
Equipment
An amulet of glory is useful because if you're at a course near a glory teleport location it removes the need of taking teleport rune with you, which frees up more inventory slots.
If your hunter level is high enough you may want to wear a spotted or spottier cape. These are the best because they reduce your weight, which allows you to run for longer, though any cape will do. Boots of lightness are the best footwear option, as they also decrease your weight.
To get into the Werewolf agility course or the skullball course you will also have to be wearing an enchanted ring of Charos (e).

Use the fairy ring code AJQ and climb up the ladder to the north. Talk to Turgall in the north-east hut and remember the SECOND item (power box, lever, or cog) he tells you to get. Follow the agility route to the old generator. Always click the next obstacle at the instant you see the completion message for the previous obstacle in your chat box (the only obstacle you don't get a completion message from is the tunnel). Climb down into the generator and use your spanner with Boiler on the south wall, then remove the item you need to get. Follow the agility route back (the same route backwards! No need for a grapple). When talking to Turgall again, click the bottom option two times, the top option once, and the bottom option once. Pick out the second item from what he says; there is no need to read the whole message.
Notes
A full lap takes 152 to 165 seconds and gives 2750 xp.
Miscellaneous Courses
Agility is one of the more fun skills to train, since there are more ways to train than by pointing and clicking repetively. Aswell as the normal Agility courses, there are other more fun options available to you. Some examples are below:
Skullball Field
- Minimum level Needed: 25
- Location: Morytania, slightly north-east of Canifs.
You must have completed the 'Creature of Fenkenstrain' quest to obtain the ring of Charos, you have to be wearing it to gain entrance to the course. Skullball is a fast way to level up at lower levels.
The objective of the game is to kick the skulls into the goals in the fastest time possible. To do this, first line yourself up with the ball. Get behind it and have the ball on the same line as the goal by right clicking on the ball and choosing the 'tap' option. To move the ball further in one go then you can choose the 'kick' option which sends the ball four places instead of the one space taps moves it.
Then get behind the ball, right click on it, and choose the 'shoot' option to fire the skull at the goal. If it goes through, then you get agility experience, if it doesn't, bring the ball back around and try again. If you lose sight of your goal, then right click on the ball and choose 'show goal'.
Once you complete the course, you will be shown a screen showing the time you took and how much agility experience you have been awarded:
Brimhaven Agility Arena
- Minimum level Needed: 1
- Location: Brimhaven.
There are no skill requirements to enter, however you must pay 200gp each time you go in.
The goal in this game is to 'tag' pillars in quick succession. The pillar you are required to tag is the one with the flashing arrow above it.
The first pillar you tag will not give you a token, but the second one you tag will. If you miss a pillar out in a row, the box in the top right of the screen will turn red, and the next pillar you tag will not give you a token, but the one afterwards will. After you have built up a store of tickets, then go back outside and talk to Jackie the Fruit to exchange your tickets for a reward.
They come in the form of experience points, rare herbs or a pirates hook:
Prices
Experience - 1 ticket, 10 tickets, 25 tickets, 100 tickets, 1000 tickets (left to right)
Toadflax - 3 tickets
Snapdragon - 10 tickets
Pirate's hook - 800 tickets
Note - Wearing a set of Karamja gloves (2) obtained from the achievement diary will increase the amount of Xp per ticket you receive slightly.
Recommended Training Methods
1-35
From levels 1 until 35 Agility, there are only a few options. The first is to use the Gnome Stronghold Course. Simply go through course until you reach level 35. Wear as little as possible and keep your inventory free. You won't need any food at all. The second method is to use a toy mouse. Go into a small area, wind up the mouse then catch it.
35-44
From level 35 until 44 Barbarian Outpost is the recommended way to go. Bring along some cakes, and complete the course.
44-52
At 44, going to the Brimhaven Agility Arena is the best option. Try and get as many tickets as you can before cashing in, as the more you cash in at once, the more experience per ticked you will get. Be sure to bring along some cakes or lobsters because you will need them.
52-75
At 52 you have two options. The first is to go the The Wilderness Course. The Wilderness course has the biggest risk to it. Since you are in the wilderness you need to be on the look out for PKers. Be sure to carry food. If you're looking for a safer method you can head over to Ape Atoll. This course requires an archer or ninja monkey greegree, and you must have completed Monkey Madness. This course you will fail more but it will be safer. Bring along a knife and pick up some pineapple at the end of the course for food. You can stay here without having to leave at all, as you can survive on pineapple alone.
75-99
From 75 to 99 the way to go is Ape Atoll. Above level 75, you won't fail any of the obstacles at Ape Atoll. Now all that's left is to focus on you're goal of 99! Once you reach 99 you can be honoured to have one of the most respected capes in the whole of Runescape!
85-99
It is also recommended that you do the Dorgesh-Kaan agility course from 85 to 99. You will always fail at this course, and the rate of fail is very random but the experienced gained is more significant than Ape Atoll.
