Introduction
The Wilderness (a.k.a. “Wildy”) is a vast, dead area in RuneScape full of many monsters and treasures. The Wilderness is also one of the only places in RuneScape were you can attack and even kill fellow players. To find it, simply head north from Falador or Varrock. To find your way out, head south.

Highlights of the Wilderness
The Wilderness has many key elements such as training spots, mines and even towns. Here are just some of the popular places in the Wilderness:
Bone Yard
The Bone Yard is a small pit in around level 20 Wilderness full of Skeletons (Combat level 22). It also has a lot of spawning Bones, which can give rapid Prayer experience. There is a couple of Big Bones spawns as well, but these Skeletons are aggressive to all players and might become a problem for people under level 40.

Mines
The Wilderness is a rocky mountain area, so you can expect a lot of mines. Near the end of the Wilderness there are two Runite rocks: two of the four in all of RuneScape. There are also two large Coal mining areas in the Wilderness, but are guarded by Skeletons (level 22) and Hobgoblins (level 28).
Bandit Camp
One of the strangest things in the Wilderness is the Bandit Camp. Around level 25 Wilderness, this camp has a fishing area, a food shop, and even a general store! Not one of the safest ways to shop!

Graveyard
Every evil place isn’t complete without a Graveyard. This Graveyard is swarming with Ghosts (level 19) and ugly Zombies (level 24). This place has a lot of Planks spawning everywhere, which are used in the Dragon Slayer quest.

Lava Maze
(Members Only)
The Lava Maze is a winding path surrounded by boiling hot Lava Rivers. It has many Giants (level 28) and other creatures inside, but none as fierce as the Lesser Demon (a whopping level 82!).

Members Area
Although the free players get access to many areas in the Wilderness, the members can go through a gate which has many exciting places such as the Mage Arena and the infamous Scorpion Pit. It would only be wise to enter when you are a strong warrior, for the dangers in this part are unimaginable.

PKing Guide
The feature of being able to kill fellow players in the Wilderness has created the art of PKing (Player-Killing). Simple as it seems, to be a skilled PKer, you must learn the very advanced aspects, as it is more than simply attacking people. If you wish to be an amazingly skilful PKer, you need to go through some training guidelines. I call this the “STAK” guide:
Sneaky
Technique
Aggression
Knowledge
STAK is the key element in being the best PKer. You must be sneaky, you must follow a technique, you must keep aggressive and you must have knowledge of the Wilderness. You must follow ALL of these guidelines if you wish to be successful that means if you have to be sneaky and aggressive at the same time.
If you want to become a PKer, you must get your levels to the correct height. PKers preferably have very low Defense, high Attack and very high Strength. A decent Prayer level (at least 37) is also a must for a good PKer. Keep your other combat skills down. Here are good stats for a melee PKer:
Attack: 50
Defense: 1
Strength: 70
Hit points: 50
Prayer: 43
Range: 1
Magic: 1
This will give you combat level 56, which is considered to many as not very strong. Using this surprise element, when you deal 17 to them, they will be in utter shock. Dividing your levels out like this gives you a great advantage in battle. You can be a Mage or Archer PKer, but it is not recommended.
Good PKers never, NEVER, go into the Wilderness without any items. A PKer should at least bring half an inventory of very good food with him/her. Although it has a risk of losing them, also bring your armour and weapons, because they can give a large bonus to your stats.
When you are in the Wilderness, there should be a skull and crossbones symbol with a level underneath it in the bottom right corner of the game screen. This tells you the Wilderness level. Here's how it works: If you are in level 9 Wilderness, you can only attack people 9 levels lower than you, or 9 levels higher. This can also be used for finding your way around. So if you were looking for the Bone Yard and you knew it was somewhere in level 22 Wilderness, you could use it to know what level you were in.
PKing can be more fun and easier with a team or a clan. It is also good to make individual alliances with other clans (your character allies with a clan). If you own a clan, make clan on alliances and try not to have too many wars.
Wether you are with a team or on your own, killing miners that are mining Runite is a great way to get a good booty. Most Runite miners are rather strong, but their drop is almost always worth it.
PKing Defense Guide
PKing isn’t much fun when you’re the one getting PKed. The first thing you should do and the most important DON’T PANIC IF THEY ARE GOING TO WHOMP YOU! Typical psychiatry notes that panicking about something will make it much worse. Panicking can also cause you to get fidgety and every click counts. First thing you should try is to simply run. Regardless, always run as your first action. After you run, quickly calculate their level and run to a safe Wilderness level where they can’t attack you. If you reach level 20 Wilderness and you have teleport Runes with you, teleport straight away unless they are weaker than you.
If someone does attack you and they are a weaker combat level than you, it can mean two things. Either they are plain stupid, or they are a skilled PKer using the level technique to hide their combat level by keeping one of their stats low. You can tell who they are by letting them attack you until they deal damage to you. ONLY do this when you have a lot of good food with you, or can easily escape or get away. If you are a miner, you are almost always in grave danger. Especially if you are mining Runite.
